Tuition fees
Turkish University Tuition Fees for Afghan Students
How tuition is set at state and foundation universities in Türkiye, what makes one programme cost more than another, which other costs to budget for, and how to read a fee schedule correctly.
Checked against official sources on 19 October 2026. We do not publish fee figures on this page because they differ for every programme and change each academic year. When you work with us, we use the university's current official fee schedule for every programme on your shortlist.
In short: State universities set international fees within government limits; foundation (private) universities set their own. Fees change by programme, language and year, so compare the full cost of every year, plus any prep year and living costs, using each university's official fee list.
Who sets tuition fees?
According to the official Study in Türkiye portal of the Council of Higher Education, tuition for international students depends on the type of university:
- State universities: the government sets lower and upper limits for international student contributions, and each university decides its own amounts within them.
- Foundation universities: fees are set by the university's own board of trustees.
As a result, fees vary between universities, faculties, programmes and the language of instruction, and from one academic year to the next.
What changes the price
- University type: state or foundation
- Field of study: medicine, dentistry and some engineering programmes usually cost more than social sciences or business
- Language of instruction: English-taught programmes can be priced differently from Turkish-taught ones
- Preparatory year: a language prep year is an extra year of fees and living costs
- Discounts: merit-based discounts offered by many universities, and full scholarships such as Türkiye Scholarships
How to read a fee schedule
Before you compare universities, check:
- Whether the fee is per year or per semester
- The currency (some universities price in US dollars or euros, others in Turkish lira)
- Whether a deposit is required to confirm your place, and whether it is refundable if your visa is refused
- Whether the prep year is priced separately
- Whether a discount applies for the full programme or must be re-earned each year
- The university's refund policy
Other costs to budget for
- Accommodation (dormitory or shared flat) and daily living costs, which vary widely by city
- Health insurance and student residence permit fees
- Document translation, notarisation and legalisation
- Visa fees and travel
- Books, transport and a mobile phone line
The official Study in Türkiye portal describes student life in Türkiye as relatively affordable, but this depends heavily on the city and your lifestyle. Istanbul is generally more expensive than smaller university cities.
Paying safely
Always pay tuition and deposits directly to the university through its official, published payment channels, and keep every receipt. Never send tuition payments to a personal account.
How we help
We build a cost comparison for your shortlist from the universities' current official fee schedules, include the prep year and living costs, and help you plan your financial documents for the visa.
Questions
Frequently asked questions
Are state universities in Turkey cheaper than private universities?
Often, but not always. State university fees for international students are set by each university within government limits, while foundation universities set their own fees and often offer discounts. Compare the actual programmes you are interested in.
Why don't you list tuition fees?
Fees differ for every programme and change every academic year. Publishing old figures would mislead students. We work from each university's current official fee schedule instead.
Do I pay tuition to you or to the university?
Tuition is paid directly to the university through its official payment channels.
