This guide explains Turkey bachelor admission for Afghan students step by step: who is eligible, what universities look at, and how to prepare your documents and timeline.
Who can apply
You can usually apply for a bachelor's programme in Türkiye if you have completed grade 12, or will complete it before the programme starts. Many universities accept applications from students in their final year of high school and make a conditional offer until final results are available.
Most bachelor's programmes take four years. Some professional programmes, such as medicine, take longer. If you need a language preparatory year, add one year to your plan.
Typical entry requirements
Each university decides its own criteria for international applicants, and they can differ between programmes. Common routes are:
- High school grades: some universities admit students on their grade 12 diploma and transcripts alone, with a minimum average for each programme.
- TR-YÖS or a university's own YÖS exam: entrance exams for international students. TR-YÖS is run by ÖSYM, Türkiye's national assessment centre.
- SAT or other international qualifications, which many universities accept with programme-specific minimum scores.
Competitive programmes, especially medicine, dentistry and engineering at well-known universities, usually set higher minimums and have limited places for international students.
Language of instruction
For an English-taught programme you will usually need an accepted English score (such as IELTS or TOEFL) or must pass the university's own proficiency exam. For a Turkish-taught programme you need proof of Turkish proficiency. Students who do not yet meet the requirement are often admitted to a preparatory year to study the language first. Read about English-taught programmes in Türkiye.
Documents
Expect to provide your passport, grade 12 diploma (or proof of expected graduation), transcripts, any test scores and a photograph. For final registration in Türkiye, undergraduate students generally need a high school equivalence certificate (denklik) from the Turkish Ministry of National Education. See the full documents checklist and our guide to denklik.
When to apply
Most bachelor's programmes start in September or October, and some universities also offer a February start. Begin preparing 9–12 months ahead. Application windows for autumn entry often open in the first half of the year, and popular programmes can fill early. See intakes and timelines.
Scholarships for bachelor's students
Türkiye Scholarships accepts bachelor's applicants who are under 21 and meet a minimum academic achievement of 70% (90% for medicine, dentistry and pharmacy), according to the official programme criteria. Many universities also offer merit-based tuition discounts. See scholarships.

Questions
Frequently asked questions
Can I apply before I finish grade 12?
Often, yes. Many universities accept final-year students and make a conditional offer, which becomes final when you submit your diploma and results.
Do I need the SAT to study in Turkey?
Not always. Some universities accept high school grades alone, some require TR-YÖS or their own exam, and many accept the SAT as one option. It depends on the programme.
Can I study medicine in Turkey as an Afghan student?
Medicine is offered to international students at many universities, but places are limited, minimum requirements are high and the programme is long and costly. We assess your eligibility honestly before you apply.
