Many Afghan students worry most about one part of the Turkish student visa process: the questions at the appointment. Not every applicant is interviewed, and there is no official list of questions. But the questions that are asked usually aim to understand the same few things. If you understand those, and your documents support your answers, you have nothing to fear.

This guide explains what officers generally want to know and how to prepare. For the full process, see our Turkish student visa guide for Afghan nationals.

What the questions are trying to understand

Visa questions for students usually come back to four topics:

  1. Are you a genuine student? Do you know what you will study, where, and why?
  2. Can you pay for your studies? Do you understand the costs, and who is paying?
  3. Is your file consistent? Do your answers match your documents?
  4. What are your plans? What do you intend to do during and after your studies?

Questions about your studies

You may be asked questions such as:

  • Which university and programme have you been accepted to?
  • Why did you choose this programme and this university?
  • Why do you want to study in Türkiye?
  • Is your programme taught in English or Turkish? Will you do a preparatory year?
  • How long is the programme, and when does it start?
  • What did you study before, and how does it connect to this programme?

How to prepare: know your acceptance letter in detail. Read the programme page, the city and the campus, and be able to explain your choice in a few clear sentences.

Questions about money

  • What is your tuition fee, and have you paid any of it?
  • Who is paying for your studies and living costs?
  • What does your sponsor do for a living?
  • Where will you live, and roughly how much will it cost?

How to prepare: know the real numbers in your documents. If a parent or relative is sponsoring you, understand their income and the evidence you have submitted. Never guess or exaggerate.

Questions about your background

  • Where did you finish high school (or university), and when?
  • What were your grades?
  • Have you travelled abroad before?
  • Have you ever been refused a visa?

How to prepare: answer exactly as your documents show. If you have had a previous refusal, say so honestly. Hiding it is far more harmful than the refusal itself.

Questions about your plans

  • What do you plan to do after you graduate?
  • Do you plan to work while studying?

How to prepare: give a sincere, specific answer. Know that international students' right to work in Türkiye is limited and regulated, so do not suggest you are travelling mainly to work.

Practical tips for the appointment day

  • Bring originals and copies of every document in your file, in the order of the mission's checklist.
  • Arrive early and dress neatly.
  • Answer the question asked. Keep answers short and clear, and do not memorise a speech.
  • Be honest. If you do not know something, say so. Never invent an answer.
  • Stay calm. A question is not an accusation; officers ask questions to understand your application.

What not to do

  • Do not use answers written by someone else that do not match your situation.
  • Do not bring documents you cannot explain.
  • Do not pay anyone who promises to "arrange" the interview or the decision.

How we help

We review your file before the appointment, check that your documents are consistent, and hold practice sessions so you can explain your study plans and finances clearly in your own words. If your visa is not approved, our no visa, no service fee promise applies to our consultancy fee.

Questions students ask

Is there always an interview for a Turkish student visa?

Not always. Some applicants are only asked to submit documents and biometrics, while others are asked questions at the appointment. Prepare as if you will be interviewed.

What language is the interview in?

It depends on the mission and the officer. Be ready to answer simple questions about your studies in English, and check whether an interpreter is allowed if you need one.

Can a consultant attend the interview with me?

Usually only the applicant attends. That is why preparation beforehand matters.
